UFC 132: Chris Leben Knocks Out Wanderlei Silva in 27 Seconds

Chris Leben Knocks Out Wanderlei Silva at UFC 132.One of the great knockouts in mixed martial arts may now have been knocked out too many times himself, as Wanderle Silva was knocked out cold by Chris Leben on Saturday night at UFC 132.

Silva, known as the Axe Murderer, is one of the all-time stars of MMA, but it was ugly to see how quickly Leben knocked him out with a series of uppercuts and additional punches on the ground on Saturday night. The whole fight lasted just 27 seconds. Silva has taken so many shots in his long MMA career that he might not be able to go on much longer.

"I can't believe it's real," Leben said of his victory. "Holy s**t."

The win improves Leben's record to 26-7, and it's probably the biggest win of his career, given the legendary status of Silva. Leben made a nod to Silva's status as an all-time great in his post-fight comments.

"Wanderlei, I love you," Leben said. "You're my hero."

Silva is the hero of many MMA fans, but with the loss his record falls to 33-11-1, including 2-6 in his last eight fights. It might be time for him to call it quits.

Matt Brown snaps losing skid with decision over John Howard

PITTSBURGH -- Before their bout, John Howard predicted that he and Matt Brown would get the Fight of the Night bonus, but that seems unlikely after their fight on Sunday night. Brown won the grappling-filled bout 29-28 on all three judges' cards.

Howard used lots of snapping leg kicks to start the round, until they moved into the clinch. Howard swung the fight to the ground for a second, but they returned to their feet quickly, where Brown made headway with striking. He hit Brown with a kick and two strikes before Howard took Brown down. They stood back up, and Brown continued to show impressive striking, until Howard threw Brown down on his back.

Brown's legs were reddened by the second round from Howard's leg kicks, a weapon Howard continued to use. The fight oddly went to the ground about halfway through the round, as Howard tried for a takedown and ended up on his back. Brown joined him there for a grappling session to finish out the round.

Again, Howard used the leg kick to start the third round, but then tried for higher kicks after that. To stop the onslaught of kicks, Brown got a takedown, but he let Howard reverse his position and take Brown's back.

Brown finally got loose and tried to work his stand-up game, but it didn't work, as Howard got another takedown. Brown finished the round with as much ground and pound as he could.

"I feel amazing on the win.  My team really keeps me on my game, especially mentally. I've got the skills, but now I'm fighting smarter," Brown said. "I think this may have been my smartest fight. But I still have a lot of work to do on my wrestling and grappling. I loved fighting here. I always fight better around my home. Always have, always will.  I wanted a win, even if it meant a decision."

This win straps a losing skid for Brown, who had three losses in a row. Howard is now the one with the three-fight losing streak. He has recent losses to Thiago Alves, Jake Ellenberger and now Brown.

Brett Rogers arrested for domestic violence charges

Brett Rogers, who lost to Josh Barnett just over a week ago in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, was reportedly arrested for charges connected to domestic violence. He allegedly hit and choked his wife badly enough that she blacked out, lost a tooth and sustained several wounds. From My FOX 9:

Brett Charles Rogers, 30, has been charged with assault in the third degree, domestic assault by strangulation and pattern of stalking conduct -- all felonies --in Dakota County. He was also charged with endangerment of a child, a gross misdameanor.

His wife blacked out from being choked, suffered a golf ball sized wound on her face among smaller wounds. The couples daughter had tried to intervene after she saw Rogers strike her mother.

Rogers' wife has been in his corner at his fights, including his last three losses in Strikeforce. She was emotional and with him in the cage on June 18 when Barnett's hand was raised after choking out Rogers.

UPDATE: Dana White said that Rogers has been released from Strikeforce after the arrest.

Story looks to keep rampage through welterweight division going at UFC on Versus 4

Rick Story is talking some lofty goals.

Who would've picked the 170-pounder out of Washington to post back-to-back wins over Thiago Alves and Nate Marquardt? He's already accomplished one half of the task and jumped at the opportunity to take on Marquardt, a former title contender at middleweight.

Story, who took the fight on just 24 days notice, likes his chances.

"I don't go into any fight thinking I'm not going to win. I go in knowing I'm going to win in every single fight," Story told ProMMARadio.

A former college wrestler at Southern Oregon, Story now looks to finish things with his hands.

"I want it to end by knockout. That's the ultimate," Story said. "I think it'll depend on how good of shape Marquardt is in after this weight cut. If he fades, I'm going to TKO him. Probably late 2nd or third round."

Story (13-3, 6-1 UFC) believes a spectacular win over a big name like Marquardt should get him a crack at the belt. That's big talk from a guy who actually lost his UFC debut a little over two years ago.

"I think that the win over Marquardt by finish should put me in position for a title shot. I think a lot of people would agree with me," Story said. "Finishing Marquardt, a former top contender at 185 pounds, a higher weight class, should move me into that spot."

That spot is inhabited by Georges St-Pierre, one of the world's top two fighters in MMA. That would be a heckuva leap for a guy who was recently ranked No. 23 in the world at 170. Seems unlikely, but so did this recent run of six straight wins. Story believes it can it happen, maybe it's time the rest do as well.
