Jackson takes main event in a decision at UFC 130

In the main event at UFC 130, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson won a unanimous decision over Matt Hamill with a fight that showed off his defensive prowess and drew boos from the crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. After the fight, Jackson said he was fighting with an injured hand.

Jackson stuffed a takedown attempt early in the first round, setting the tone for the rest of the bout. Hamill used snapping leg kicks throughout the first round, as Jackson punished with strikes every time Hamill came in close. In the last 30 seconds of the round, Jackson teed off, pushing Hamill against the cage and landing a bevy of strikes. There wasn't enough time for Jackson to finish, but Hamill was definitely damaged from the late onslaught.

Hamill came out with an immediate head kick in the second, but Jackson easily answered with strikes. Jackson continued to methodically hold off every one of Hamill's attacks, landing knees and short jabs along the way. Hamill seemed frustrated with his lack of ability to take Jackson down or generate any offense. Again, in the last minute of the round, Jackson tagged Hamill with an uppercut and body shots, but again, it was too late.

The third round featured more counterfighting from Jackson, and more frustration from Hamill. Both fighters appeared to be tired as the round wore on, and neither were capable of throwing any big moves.

After the 30-27 on all three judges cards was announced, Jackson said that his hand was injured.

"I came into this fight with a fractured hand, and I apologize. I wasn't able to put on the fight I wanted to," Jackson said. A big smile appeared on his face as UFC commentator Joe Rogan pointed out that Jackson hadn't given up a takedown.

"I didn't get taken down? Good. Matt Hamill is tough."

With a win, Jackson was expected to get a title shot. His counterfighting style was enough to win the fight, but it was hardly an endorsement of what a great fighter Jackson is. Instead of the knockouts that Jackson is capable of delivering, this fight resembled Jackson's win over Keith Jardine, where Jackson won the bout with big flurries at the end.

Hamill was also expected to be in the running for the title shot with a win, but showed that he still isn't at the elite level of the stacked light-heavyweight division. He falls to 10-3, while Jackson's record improves to 32-8.

Hamill’s grandfather a key to his success

Living in the bubble of the MMA world, it's easy to forget how remarkable Matt Hamill is for being a deaf fighter. He's been in the UFC since 2006, so we're used to him overcoming odds, and usually treat him no differently than any other fighter. It turns out that we're not the only ones, as his grandfather did the same.

Those expectations from his grandfather helped propel Hamill to become an elite fighter, and led him to the main event of Saturday's UFC 130 against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

Karyn Bryant interview: Reporter explains why she was comfortable during ‘Rampage’ convo

Add another chapter to ever present debate over females covering male-dominated sports. Much has changed since "The Patriot Missile" days with Zeke Mowatt and Lisa Olsen and yet for some it still hasn't. We can argue and debate Quinton Jackson's behavior during his UFC 130 postfight interview with Karyn Bryant until we're blue in the face, but there's no denying there still remains a sad group of athletes, media members and fans who have deep rooted dislike of females in the sports media.

Bryant joined DC and the Sunshine Man on ESPNRadio1100 in Las Vegas to tell us what she thought of the initial Jackson conversation, and the blogosphere's reaction over the last few days.

One interesting side note to the story, the cameraman on the initial interview was actually Karyn's husband, Wade. It'd be interesting to see what most guys would do if their girlfriend or wife were in Bryant's situation on Saturday night.

Tony Ferguson Wins Title, Leads TUF 13 Bonuses

LAS VEGAS -- Clay Guida thought his fight with Anthony Pettis was Fight of the Night-worthy before it happened. This time, he was trumped.

The light heavyweight slugfest between Kyle Kingsbury and Fabio Maldonado got the UFC's coveted Fight of the Night award at the Season 13 Finale of "The Ultimate Fighter," and both fighters got $40,000 bonus checks for the effort.

In addition, UFC president Dana White gave the Submission of the Night bonus to Reuben Duran, who had the night's only submission, and the Knockout of the Night to Tony Ferguson, this season's TUF champion.

The Kingsbury-Maldonado fight likely got serious competition from the Guida-Pettis co-main event. But with plenty of traded knees and punches, and a close decision - 29-28, unanimously, for Kingsbury - it beat out a mostly one-sided Guida win over Pettis.

In the night's first bout, Duran and Francisco Rivera battled back and forth for a close first two rounds, with Duran staving off several Rivera guillotine attempts. But in the third, Duran turned the tables and after a takedown, he took Rivera's back and sank in a fight-ending rear naked choke.

"I'm glad I got the win, but I was a little disappointed with my performance," Duran said. "I just couldn't get comfortable out there. The fight seemed pretty close through the first two rounds, so I knew I had to do something. I saw that choke coming a mile away, and that second time I got it on him, I knew it was over."

In the main event, Ferguson knocked out TUF 13 housemate Ramsey Nijem with a massive left to take not just a UFC contract and the TUF 13 title, but a $40,000 bonus, as well.

A pair of preliminary card fighters had to wait until night's end to find out they had been bypassed for the Knockout of the Night bonus. In the second fight of the night, Scott Jorgensen struggled early against Ken Stone - but then knocked him out from the ground in guard. And George Roop turned in a dominating performance against heavy favorite Josh Grispi before finishing him in the third with a body shot.
