Lombard calls Marquardt a cheater and claims a Bellator showdown won?t happen

Hector Lombard is badly in need of some top-notch competition. The Cuban middleweight dynamo, who's been dominant in Bellator, said he'd love to fight UFC castoff Nate Marquardt. The thickly-muscled Lombard doesn't even care if Marquardt is taking steps via testosterone replacement therapy to possibly gain an advantage.

"I think he is a cheater, but [against] me, he can take all the drugs he wants. I'm going to whoop his ass anyway," Lombard told Sherdog's Savage Dog Show.

The 29-2-1 Lombard has a grasp of reality, knowing he's way off the radar for many viewers of mixed martial arts.

"Nobody respects me at the moment. That's why I want to fight Nate Marquardt and show the people what I can do? He's a big name up there. I'm ready for the challenge. I want to show everybody what I'm capable of doing," said Lombard.

Lombard added that he heard Marquardt was offered a deal by Bellator and turned it down. Bellator's middleweight champ is riding an 18-fight win streak and hasn't lost since 2007.

Justin Bieber?s Twitter crashed Dana White?s phone

UFC president Dana White loves Twitter because of how he can communicate directly with fans and reach more than a million of his followers within seconds. But he found the downside of the popular social networking site during UFC 132 on Saturday night after he was included in tweets by superstar Justin Bieber.

Bieber attended the blockbuster card with his father, and he tweeted that he was "chillin' with White," and later that he scored the fights with White. According to the New York Post, Bieber's more than 10 million followers took notice, and their many, many replies and retweets crashed White's BlackBerry. That's why he was relatively quiet on Twitter for a fight night.

Bieber's father, who has been at UFC fights in the past, attended the fights with his son, but this was the first time Justin was Octagon-side. Like many MMA fans, he disagreed with the judges on the winner of the Matt Wiman-Dennis Siver bout.

Harley-Davidson Posts First YTD Growth since 2006

Harley-Davidson had some good news to report in its Q2 2011 financial report, as the Milwaukee company reports selling 53,599 units to customers in the US during the three-month period, and total of 83,396 units worldwide (120,642 units worldwide so far this year). These sales figures translate into a 5.6% sales increase worldwide, and an even more impressive 7.5% sales bump in the United States market. While those increases might seem modest, CEO Keith Wandell’s restructuring efforts have clearly ...

Bellator adds inspirational fighter Rad Martinez to tournament

On Sunday, ESPN's "Outside the Lines" shared the heart-wrenching story of Rad Martinez, an aspiring fighter who is also responsible for taking care of his father, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident. The story is on the long side, but well worth your time:

Even with all those responsibilities, Martinez has put together a 9-2 record which includes a win over UFC veteran Joe Brammer. Now, Martinez has been signed to fight with Bellator in their featherweight tournament. From the Bellator press release:

"Rad not only has an incredibly uplifting, powerful story, but he's also a fierce competitor who will be a great addition to the Bellator family," said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. "We're proud to have Rad under the Bellator banner, and expect big things from him inside the Bellator cage."

In the featherweight tournament, Martinez will be in the cage with such fighters as Patricio Pitbull, Pat Curran, Ronnie Mann, and Marlon Sandro. If he wins the tournament, he will face featherweight champ Joe Warren. All of these fighters train full-time, and have been doing so for years.

One of the challenges that Martinez faces is that he doesn't get as much training time as his competitors, which can be downright dangerous  in the cage. Hopefully, Bellator will give Martinez the support he needs before his fight so that he can be as well-prepared as his opponents when he gets in the cage.

Thailand sport climbing: can you help?

Since an old friend told me about his climbing trips to Thailand it’s been one of my boxes-to-tick. Climbing by the beach and then relaxing in the blue seas sounds too good to be true. I’m about to find out - I’ve decided to do it later this year… Photo kindly shared by HalonaCoast on Flickr I’m [...]

Best of the half-year of MMA in pictures

2011 is only half over, but there's been enough craziness in MMA to fill a decade. Take a look through the best of images so far this year to see reminders of Tito Ortiz's resurgence, Steven Seagal's effect on two fights, the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix and a whole lot of blood.
